Rules to know before you travel

How long you can stay

Each visit can last up to 180 days. Staying longer means registering with India’s Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) within two weeks of day 180.

It can’t be extended or changed

An e-Visa can’t be extended or switched to another type of visa once you’re in India, so choose the right one before you travel.

Arrive at an approved airport or seaport

You must enter India through one of the airports or seaports approved for e-Visas. All the main international airports are included, such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Goa and Kochi. You can leave from any immigration checkpoint.

Who can’t use an e-Visa

People of Pakistani origin, anyone with a military, police or security background (serving or retired), and holders of diplomatic or official passports must apply for a regular visa instead.

No protected areas

An e-Visa isn’t valid for protected, restricted or cantonment areas. Visiting places such as parts of the North East, Sikkim or the Andaman Islands may need a separate permit.

The government fee is set by India and depends on your nationality. It isn’t refundable, even if the visa is refused. Our fee is per person and includes checking your documents, fixing your photo and scans, and submitting your application.

No “express” fees. The Indian government doesn’t sell faster e-Visas, so we don’t either. Our job is getting your application right first time.

Indian business visa requirements for UK citizens

To apply you need a passport valid for at least 6 months with two blank pages, a recent photo and your business card. If you don’t have a business card, an invitation letter from the Indian company works instead, as long as it shows the company’s address and phone number in India. All documents must be in English.

Most Indian e-Business visa applications are decided within a few working days of being submitted.

Indian e-Business visa or regular business visa?

The e-Business visa suits most short trips: it’s quicker, done fully online and lasts a year. A regular business visa is needed if you can’t use an e-Visa, for example because of Pakistani origin or a military background, or if you need a longer or more complex arrangement. If you’re going to work for an Indian company, you need an Employment visa.

Can I combine business with sightseeing?

Yes, some sightseeing during a business trip is normal. If the main reason for your trip is a holiday, apply for an e-Tourist visa instead.

Questions people ask

Do I need an invitation letter for an Indian e-Business visa?

Not always. You need your business card, or an invitation letter from the Indian company with its address and phone number. Having both makes your application stronger.

Can I make several trips on one e-Business visa?

Yes. It’s valid for a year with multiple entries, as long as each stay is no longer than 180 days.

Can I work for an Indian company on an e-Business visa?

No. Taking up employment in India needs an Employment visa. The e-Business visa is for business visits, not jobs.

Can I attend a conference on an e-Business visa?

How early should I apply?

At least 4 days before you arrive in India, and no more than 120 days before. We recommend applying 2 to 3 weeks ahead in case anything needs correcting.

Can I apply myself instead of using you?

Yes. You can apply on the official website, indianvisaonline.gov.in, and pay only the government fee. People use us when they want a person to check their eligibility, fix their photo and documents, and handle the form for them so nothing goes wrong.
