Why can’t I use the e-Visa?
India’s e-Visa rules exclude anyone of Pakistani origin. This includes people who aren’t Pakistani nationals but whose parents or grandparents, on either side, were born in or lived permanently in Pakistan. It applies even if you were born in the UK and hold only a British passport.
If you apply for an e-Visa anyway, it’s likely to be refused and the fee isn’t refunded. In some cases you could be refused entry when you arrive.
Which Indian visa for people of Pakistani origin?
You need a regular (paper) visa: a tourist visa for holidays and family visits, or a business visa for business trips. The process takes longer than an e-Visa and asks for more details about your family history.
How long does it take?
Allow several weeks, and longer around busy periods such as Diwali, Christmas and the summer holidays. Don’t book non-refundable travel until your visa is approved.
How we help
We check that the regular visa is right for you, complete the online form, help with the extra details about your parents and grandparents, check every document and tell you exactly what to submit. This avoids the mistakes that cause long delays.
Documents you may be asked for
Along with your passport, photo and proof of UK address, you may be asked for details of your parents and grandparents: names, places of birth and nationalities. Have these ready before you start, as mistakes here cause the longest delays.
